TOURS Maison Mollans September 6 to September 14 Discover the food, wine and beguiling charms of the romantic Drôme area of Provence . Nestled in the heart of France 's Côte du Rhone is our home base, the Maison Mollans. From there, you'll experience the region through its bustling markets, wood-burning bakeries, intimate country bistros and breathtaking countryside. You'll understand why Provence is called the “belly” of France while shopping for produce, fresh goat cheese and hearth bread. Sip Rhone wine with the locals, munch on olives cured at the village mill and sample Mollanais olive oil while learning about regional specialties through hands-on cooking classes. Come to the land of lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards and share our Provençal lifestyle.
Monday: Relax and settle in at the charming Hotel St. Marc, member of the logis France, before beginning your adventure. This evening we'll welcome you with an aperitif to toast our upcoming week followed by an informal country dinner chez nous (in our home) at Maison Mollans.
T uesday: Head out to the busy Vaison market. Meet our favorite cheese vendors, pinch produce, talk herbs, taste olives and smell the region's lavender products. We'll lunch at Cairanne. Next, it's off to Rasteau for a stop at the Girasol vineyard for a tasting before heading home to take a stroll, enjoy a set of tennis or relax by the hotel pool. The evening is free to dine nearby or snack on market finds. Wednes day: Spend the morning exploring our village. Stroll by the only church built during the French revolution, the chateau and olive oil mill. Begin the first cooking class at Maison Mollans at 2 p.m. Learn the secrets of ratatouille and a lamb daube, plus a Mollans' specialty, fresh white beans. Mary, trained at the renowned Lenôtre Baking School, will demonstrate a lemon-almond tart. Sip wines from our neighborhood friend, Mr. Tyrand, and a Muscat-de-Beaumes-de-Venise. Thursday: Discover the delights of Nyons, stoping first at the family run Domaine des Arches offering homemade jams and honey. Explore the Nyons' Thursday market and visit the cooperative for oil, wine and their famous olives perfumed with herbes de Provence. Continue into the countryside to La Charette Bleu, sip rosé, order a long lunch and slowly comprehend the delicious Provençal pace. Friday: Our next class is at the Hotel St. Marc. Chef-owner Bernard Deuwille takes us on a Provençal tour, demonstrating how the local professionals use their own ingredients. Watch as he prepares a typical Provençal dish, followed by a tasting. After a pissaladiere lunch, discover several top Rhone vineyards each with its own personality. This evening taste these wines along with a cheese sampling. Saturday: Venture to Buis les Baronnies, stopping by our local candle maker and at Bernard Leget's, the well known herb specialist. At the distillery, taste apricot and thyme liqueurs. We'll lunch en route after a breathtaking drive. This evening, learn to make tapenade served with the rustic bread, fougasse, and local sausage. Sunday: Sunday lunch is sacred in France and Provence is no exception! After a leisurely morning. drive into the mountains. Land in the tiny village of Plaisians for a fabulous country lunch. The route is as beautiful as the food is tasty. Settle in for the classic Provençal meal with local fish, lamb, and cheese plus dishes like caillettes that are some of the best in all of Provence. After lunch, we'll head back to Mollans. Monday: Our last full day together offers the GRAND MOLLANAISE. Begin cooking in the morning, followed by a picnic lunch. Finish organizing in the afternoon followed by our Provençal banquet.
Tuesday: It's time to say au revoir as we head for the Avignon train station.
